How To Successfully Connect iPod Touch 4G IOS 5 To iTunes 10.5 On Macbook
By kitikits
One big problem that I had the first time I tried connecting my new Ipod Touch 4G IOS 5 to my Macbook was that apparently, I didn't have the desired version of iTunes installed in my Macbook. What was more invigorating was after I downloaded the latest iTunes, it wouldn't install properly.
So when I finally figured out how to connect my Ipod Touch to iTunes successfully, I feel that I owe it to other iPod touch owners to share how I did just that. Here comes the instruction on how you can successfully connect your Ipod Touch 4G IOS 5 to iTunes 10.5:
1. First of all, you will need the latest iTunes version which is the iTunes 10.5. You can easily download the .dmg file by going to the apple website and download it directly to your Macbook or you can open the Software Update and check for the availability of the iTunes 10.5 version. I did the second one for the reason that I will explain in the next procedure.
2. If you have a Macbook which has a late version of an OS, you will not be able to install the iTunes 10.5 properly. You will be prompted with a lot of error messages (i.e. "File is not recognized"; "Error in installing due to corrupted file", etc.). As for me it's because I did not have an updated Mac OS. I have the version 10.6.7. To install the latest iTunes, your Macbook must be running in OS 10.6.8 or the Lion.
What you have to do here is to go to the upper-left side of your navigation bar. Click on the Apple logo and select Software Update. Make sure that you are connected to the internet.
3. After your Macbook has finished checking for new software, select Show Details instead of Continue.
4. You will then be given a selection of softwares that you can update (See screenshot below. iTunes and Mac OS are not in the list below because I have installed them already). Mac OS and iTunes 10.5 are included. If you want a fast download, just un-tick the other software updates and just choose Mac OS and iTunes 10.5 or you can do what I did:
(i.) Install the Mac OS 10.6.8 update first to make sure the condition of my Macbook is still excellent. It will take about 30-45 minutes to install the update to Mac OS 10.6.8 depending on how fast your internet connection is.
(ii.) Install the iTunes 10.5. It will take about 15-20 minutes to complete the installation of iTunes 10.5.
You will be instructed to restart your laptop when you install these updates.
5. Now that your Macbook has already been updated to its latest version and your iTunes 10.5 is ready, just connect your iPod touch using a usb cable or through Wi-fi (that's right, the new iPod touch is PC-free). Have fun!

Interesting and informative hub. I love the juicy screenshots; those icons look so very attractive. This is a good way to pass on your own hard-won experiences. The only thing I wondered about was that you mentioned ITunes 5.1 a number of times - besides ITunes 10.5. I'll be reading some of your other hubs.
